Chairman
Known for his experience with growth stage healthcare companies, Todd Cozzens joined Sequoia Capital as an advisor in April 2012. The venture capital firm is noted for its investments in Apple, Google, and LinkedIn, along with recent IPOs such as Kayak and ServiceNow. Before joining Sequoia Capital, Mr. Cozzens founded and was CEO of Picis, a provider of electronic medical record software for hospitals, acquired by UnitedHealth Group in 2010. He was then named CEO of the Accountable Care Solutions business at Optum, the technology and services arm of UnitedHealth Group. Before founding Picis, he led Marquette Medical Systems to its IPO and later sale to GE. Mr. Cozzens was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in 2005 and by Marquette University in 2009.
With more than 30 years of healthcare experience, Keith Pitts is Vice Chairman of Vanguard Health Systems (NYSE: VHS), which owns and operates 28 acute-care hospitals and related outpatient businesses in five markets. Prior to joining Vanguard, Mr. Pitts was the Chairman and CEO of Mariner Post-Acute Network and its predecessor, Paragon Health Network. In addition to serving as OrNda HealthCorp’s Executive Vice President and CFO, he spent more than 15 years as a consultant to healthcare organizations, most recently as a Partner in Ernst & Young's Healthcare Consulting practice. Mr. Pitts also serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Federation of American Hospitals, serving as its Chairman in 2007 and 2008.
Scott Carter works with growth stage financial, healthcare, and technology companies. Prior to joining Sequoia Capital in 2006, he was with Summit Partners where he was involved in private equity investments in the financial services and technology sectors. Earlier, he was with JPMorgan and its predecessor entities and served in various staff positions in the United States Senate.
Michael Dixon works with growth stage healthcare companies, including AirStrip, Healthcare Quality Catalyst, Implantable Provider Group, and MedExpress. Prior to joining Sequoia Capital in 2008, he worked at Fidelity Management & Research Company.
Alan Portela has more than 25 years of experience in bringing groundbreaking medical technology solutions to market. Mr. Portela originally joined AirStrip as a senior advisor and member of the Board of Directors prior to his appointment as CEO in 2011. His vision of healthcare mobility has helped guide efforts to solidify AirStrip's leadership position in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
Prior to joining AirStrip, Mr. Portela was CEO and principal of Hybrid Clinical Transformation, LLC, where he developed successful EHR adoption strategies for the U.S. Military Health System and much of the Veterans Health Administration. He also served as President and Chief Strategist at CliniComp, Intl., and in senior executive roles in several innovative healthcare technology and service organizations.
An obstetrician by training, Dr. Cameron Powell stopped practicing in 2008 to focus full-time on the business of developing AirStrip, which he co-founded with Gene Powell and Trey Moore. It is that real-world medical experience that drives the continued development and expansion of the AirStrip healthcare solution suite.
Trey boasts an extensive technological background that led to the development of the groundbreaking AirStrip platform. Trey’s background includes application development, team leadership and building scalable business applications for both the desktop and handheld platforms, with a core focus on creating innovative and compelling user interfaces.
Prior to co-founding AirStrip, Trey had his own consulting firm, S3 Software LLC, and later co-founded several other software and web development companies, including Stat Trace, Inc. and Centricity Solutions.
Co-Founder
A successful real estate developer and native of the Rio Grande Valley, Gene Powell co-founded AirStrip in 2004 with Dr. Cameron Powell and Trey Moore. He has also served as AirStrip’s CEO and as its chairman.
Prior to co-founding AirStrip, Powell formed The Powell Companies real estate brokerage company and Bitterblue, Inc. Today Bitterblue is among the top real estate developers in San Antonio, having produced a number of notable local projects.
